About Helen

Featured Artist: Helen Crowther

Helen's artistic journey began after she retired from a career in finance and attended classes in Jewellery Manufacture and Design at the Ruth Prowse School of Art in Cape Town. Some years later and finding herself with no jewellery studio to work in, she picked up a paintbrush and discovered a hidden talent. Her chosen medium is watercolour, with some exploration of acrylics.

Her portfolio is vibrant and diverse, and she has a keen interest in the natural world, her artworks often illustrating wildlife, birds and florals, with an occasional whimsical character or two that reflect her sense of mischief and fun. Her art pieces are delicately detailed with expressive brush strokes, and whether a playful cartoon pig, as in her "Pigs Might Fly" range or an avian study, her art is infused with a sense of curiosity, inviting the viewer to notice the world around them.

The products on which she chooses to display her art are of excellent quality and are printed locally in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and in Yorkshire, England or in the Western Cape, South Africa. Using her art on products such as coffee mugs, water bottles, and homewares are Helen's way of bringing Functionality to Art and Art to Functionality, with the emphasis on FUN.

Helen spends her time between Cape Town, South Africa and Hexham, Northumberland, UK."
